.9999 Fine GOLD

I recommend you purchase at least a half ounce of .9999 fine gold so that I can teach you to alloy.

I generally recommend an ounce and you can certainly get more if you are feeling flush.

This is who we use to buy our .9999 fine gold:

Premade Gold Sheet, Wire, and Solder

If you have alloyed before and don’t wish to spend your time alloying and milling in the studio, you can bring what you already have or buy sheet, wire, and solder from Tevel 212-279-7077. You can click on the gold link on my tools site to see all of the gold options and prices, decide what you need (26 gauge sheet is what we use for bezels and most back sheets, so unless you have something very particular in mind that you have discussed with me, any 22k sheet should be 26 gauge) and then call Tevel to order. Please reach out with any questions about what to order, I am always happy to help. Again, you should do this well in advance so that we can have what you want made up. Everything is made to order, we don’t keep stock in place.

Gold Solder 22k, 20k, 18k, 14k. Bring whatever you have but if you need to purchase, I recommend you buy from my source, Tevel at allcraft 212-279-7077 We have our own custom solder alloys that flow better than anything else I have used.

You can have any gold, tools, materials, etc. shipped right to the studio if you like:

Attire

Just wear whatever is cool, comfortable, and you don’t mind getting charcoal on. It can get hot alloying and using the kiln! The ac keeps us quite comfortable most of the time but standing over a hot torch…. More of a concern if you are coming in July rather than January.

Nothing dangling from your clothes like scarves, fringe, etc.

Either wear your hair back or bring hair bands to pull it back when using anything that spins (flex shaft, polishing wheels, etc.).

FUN

Get ready to have a good time! If there is anything I have neglected to mention, feel free to email me to ask.
